8 Months to Maximise Your Firm’s Valuation: Where Offshoring Fits

The valuation that matters most

With the capital gains tax changes taking effect from 1 July 2027, there’s good reason to focus on what your firm will be worth at 30 June.

You’re likely already helping clients prepare. But with a busy workload, it’s easy to put plans for your own firm further down the list.

The next eight months are an opportunity to build its value. Improving profitability, reducing reliance on you and giving your team the systems and support to work effectively can all make a difference. Whether a sale is on the horizon or still years away, those improvements can put you in a stronger position.

Offshoring is a valuation strategy, not just a staffing one

Most firm owners think of offshoring as a fix for a capacity problem. It is. But a valuer isn’t only looking at this year’s profit. They’re asking two questions:

  1. How much does this firm reliably earn
  2. How much of that would survive if the owner stepped back?

Offshoring done well improves both answers. It adds capacity that lifts earnings, and it builds the structure that makes those earnings transferable. For us, cost savings have never been the point. Growth is. And growth is exactly what a valuer pays for.

5 ways to lift your firm’s value, and where offshoring fits

  1. Lift maintainable earnings through capacity
Most firms aren’t short on work. They’re short on people to do it. Every job turned away, every write-off from a rushed deadline, and every partner hour spent on processing is value left on the table.

Where offshoring fits: skilled offshore accountants take on compliance and processing, so your firm can say yes to more work, recover more of its time and grow fees without fighting for scarce local talent.

  1. Reduce owner dependence
A firm that runs through one person is a risk, and valuers price risk. If client relationships, technical knowledge and sign-offs all sit with the partner, the business is worth less than its numbers suggest.

Where offshoring fits: when processing comes off your plate, you have room to share relationships and responsibilities across your team. The firm starts running on its people, not just on you.

  1. Document your systems
Valuations rely on evidence. A firm with clear, written processes is easier to understand, easier to transfer and easier to defend.

Where offshoring fits: you can’t onboard an offshore team member without defining how work gets done. The Foundation 90, our 90-day training and quality control program, builds this in by design. Workflows are mapped, documented, and refined, leaving you with a process library that holds value long after onboarding ends.

  1. Show a stable team and a succession bench
High staff turnover is a red flag. So is a firm with no one ready to step up.

Where offshoring fits: offshore team members take on junior roles, opening genuine career paths for your onshore staff into review, supervision and leadership. Our hybrid model, with twice-weekly in-office collaboration, keeps the offshore team engaged and connected. And our co-founder Rosanna, an ex-Big 4 accountant based in the Philippines, works closely with every team member to keep standards high.

  1. Prove you can grow
Value isn’t only about today. A firm that can show room to grow, without being capped by local talent shortages, is a far more attractive proposition.

Where offshoring fits: scalable capacity means you can take on new clients and advisory work with confidence, and show a clear growth path in your forecasts. For regional firms with smaller local talent pools, this can be the difference between standing still and moving forward.

Why starting now matters

Offshoring isn’t a switch you flip in May. Finding the right person, working through the 90-day Foundation 90 program and letting the results flow through to your financials, team structure and processes all take time.

Work back from 30 June 2027 and the window is tighter than it looks. Firms that start before Christmas give themselves room to have the benefits on the books, not just in the plan, when the valuer looks.

There’s a practical side too. Your clients will need CGT advice and valuation support in the lead-up, right on top of a normal tax season. Having the capacity in place early means you can serve them well while building your own firm’s value at the same time.

Build a firm worth more

The firms that come out of 2027 in the strongest position won’t be the ones that scrambled in the final months. They’ll be the ones that used this window to build capacity, structure and a team that can run without them.
